How To Plan A Marquee Wedding

Posted on

A major concern when planning your wedding is the venue. If you would want an outdoor event, marquees will protect guests from harsh weather. So how do you plan a marquee wedding? Below is a comprehensive guide.

Choosing a Marquee

The number of guests and the orientation of the venue will determine the size of marquee you should hire. For instance, if the ground is uneven, you could opt for two or three marquees.

Traditional marquees will give your wedding a touch of class and elegance. They come in various sizes and can accommodate hundreds of guests. Besides, you can add windows and air conditioning systems to these marquees. Framed marquees are erected on aluminium frames. As such, they do not have internal supporting structures. Such marquees allow you more flexibility when planning your event since you do not have to worry about internal poles. Besides, the marquees can withstand severe weather such as strong winds.

Pagodas are smaller in size. They are often used as VIP or catering tents. Stretch tents have an appealing modern design. Their shape is adjusted by poles erected inside the structure. These marquees are perfect for waterfront events such as beach weddings. They may not be a suitable choice if you expect strong winds or rain.

Choosing a Marquee Hire Company

Conduct some research to identify reputable marquee hire companies in your locality. Referrals and internet reviews are excellent sources of such information.

Evaluate the company's professionalism. For example, they should provide transport services as well as erect and dismantle the marquee at no extra cost. The marquee should be set up a few hours before your event commences. This gives you adequate time to organise tents and tables and install décor, lights and air conditioning. Check the company's terms of hire. These would include:

  1. Pricing. Most companies will ask for a deposit. You will pay the remaining amount on the wedding day.
  2. Extension policy. It is an important consideration since the wedding may take longer than you expected.
  3. Policies. The company may prohibit you from moving or dismantling the marquee without the assistance of their staff.
  4. Insurance. Check what liabilities the company accepts. For instance, will they offer compensation for injuries caused by improper installation?

You will need to conduct a site inspection to identify risks such as low-lying electrical cables, sprinklers and water pipes.

Planning a marquee wedding could not be any easier. Determine the size and type of marquee, work with a professional marquee hire company and conduct a site inspection to prevent accidents during your wedding.
